Your brain functions at its best when it has the right fuel to keep it going. This fuel we are referring to is the nutrients found in food!

Research has found that certain foods and nutrients can positively impact on your mental health. For example, omega 3 fatty acids are required for a number of brain processes and functions – so it makes sense that it is important to make sure you are getting enough in your diet!

Carbohydrates are also important for your brain. Good carbohydrates – fruit, vegetables and wholegrains – provide fuel to the brain as they break down into glucose. Your brain depends on this glucose – a steady flow of it to the brain is important for optimal brain function.

Eating regularly is also important for helping you feel good! How? Regular meals help to maintain steady blood sugar levels. If you skip meals, this leads to low blood sugar levels which can result in irritability, fatigue and feeling low. Also, refined and sugary foods should be avoided. Sure, they give you an initial surge of energy in your blood stream but this is quickly followed by a crash which leaves you feeling tired and low.
