Fatigue is more than just feeling tired. Everyone gets tired if they have a bad night's sleep. Fatigue is more constant, a feeling of weakness or chronic tiredness of either physical and/or mental consequences.
At least 1.5 million Australians see their doctors about fatigue. Fatigue plays a large role in decreased production, and can increase the risk of a workplace accident or workplace injury occurring. Some of the symptoms that may be present in someone with fatigue include
- Chronic tiredness, not disappearing with rest or sleep
- Muscle weakness
- Impaired decision making
- Poor concentraiton
- Short term memory problems
- Appetite loss
- Low motivation
All of these factors can negatively impact a person's ability to perform at work safely and effectively. Not only can fatigue affect us short term, but long term effects of fatigue can contribute to a number of health programs including an increased risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, mood disorders and gastrointestinal problems.
Health by Design conduct a program called Powerhouse, a program to help clients knock out fatigue. Some assessments are conducted in order for your coach to help tailor a program based of your goals and needs to combat fatigue.
