Manufacturing job roles and tasks are a top cause of musculoskeletal issues due to muscular stress while lifting, carrying and/or putting down objects repeatedly.

Individual factors can also increase the risk of injury and pain. It’s important to look after your body so it can look after you! With a few changes and adjustments to your posture, muscular strength and body weight, you can help to reduce pain and ‘wear and tear’ damage on your body.

Maintain neutral posture

Maintain neutral posture

1. Maintain neutral posture

Neutral posture keeps your body balanced and joints aligned, placing minimal stress on your body.

Awkward postures force your muscles to work harder and place stress on the muscles, tendons and ligaments.

This occurs when any part of your body bends or twists away from a comfortable, neutral posture position - eg. when reaching, lifting, twisting or bending.

Maintain healthy body weight

2. Maintain a healthy body weight

Being overweight limits your physical capacity - how much you can do and how easily you can complete tasks - so it is important to maintain a healthy body weight to reduce your risk of injury.

Maintain muscle mass

3. Maintain muscle mass

Decreases in muscle mass and strength lead to loss of functional ability and increases your risk of falls.

Incorporate resistance training into your exercise routine (squats, push ups, lunges and use of weights).
